Annie is an eighteen year old slave girl whose family is in great danger from the plantation's owner, Mr. Willard. He is sadistic and cruel and used to getting his own way. Set in Florida in the 1850's, the story is a diary of sorts, outlining the story of how Annie's family plotted to stop Mr. Willard from trying to have them all killed. It is a true story, and it is filled with descriptions of how things actually were for slaves during the colonial period. It also outlines the brutal prejudice that Blacks faced during that time period.
